Big Blog #1
for my first big blog my genre of music that i will be talking about is Hip Hop. Hip Hop was created back in the 1970s born in new York by Bronx. it was organically influenced by African american dancing and was becoming very popular all over the world. hip hops definition from the US is that its "a style of popular music of US black and Hispanic origin, featuring rap with an electronic backing". Nowadays hip-hop has another name called rap and now hip hop has a lot more aggressive words being said like violence, sex, drugs, and profanity .but this is the point of hip hop, it is supposed to make you feel cool and self confident with the energy and adrenaline rush. the style rap is used in is very unique i think its just a young adults type of music, im sure everyone likes hip hop because its just naturally in our blood. now what many rappers say is that hip-hop is black culture because they do it the best and that it is black music, this was said by Dr dre in an interview where he also said there only one white rapper in his mind that is hands down one of the greatest rappers of all time and its the great Eminem.
Im going to give an example of one of my favorite rappers and one of his famous songs because it is a great example of hip hop and its old school because i want you to see the difference in how rap was when it first started. This song is by an artist know as Easy E in which is real name is Eric lynn Wright and the song name is ‘the Boyz N the Hood” this is the clean version dont worry !
i thought that this would be a great example because this song shows a different type of beat and the auto tune he uses is very notice able. now days a producers/Dj makes beats for rappers and the rappers buy it off them. they dont really use hand instruments no more they have now like studios where beats are made but the difference between my first example and this example is that you can hear the more modern more clean beats and in the first example the beats were more just plan piano and bass. in hip hop the bass is the most popular i woulds say because it sounds great and vibrates the ear which is very cool. sometimes its usually the beat that people like and the type of beat gives off the type of moods the song gives. like for this example the vibe is partying and thinking about probably sex. for the first example it talks more of a story he is telling and talks about sex, money and violence which is really what he is about just being a gangster. another thing mentioned is that old school beats tend to be more slower with only 2-3 beats the whole song and new school having 6-8 beats in one song with a lot more edited sounds and wide range echos. with this modern hip hop and now internet hip hop is not hard to make because you can just look up a beat and freestyle to it which is what a lot of famous rappers like to do and i am sure they started off like that. Freestyle is a improvisation with or without instrumental beats, in which are recited with no particular subject of structures and with no prior memorization. im sure any other genre can do they same but hip hop is most know for that which many kids do at a young age and its fun. now with kids being very talented and coming up with rymes in there head, they can be as young as 15 years olds and famous with millions of dollars and a lot of clout.

I enjoyed reading your blog, and learning more about Hip Hop. I already love the genre, but it was interesting reading about the history and roots, which I was much less familiar with. I like how you shared two examples of older and newer music, and compared the two.
ReplyDeleteWhen I found out you were writing about Hip Hop, I was so excited to read it! My favorite part was your Lil Wayne video of "Lollipop." He is my favorite rapper of all time! I found it interesting that you mentioned the change of the original rap style to today. I definitely agree with Dr. Dre. Lyrics are everything in today's rap. The better your lyrics, the better your credit. Also, you brought up several Louisiana rappers (NBA and Lil Wayne), I think it would be cool to specifically look at the Louisiana rap style progression. :)
ReplyDeleteI did not know very much about hip hop besides it is similar to rap before I read your blog! The section where you talked about how there are many styles of hip hop but it all falls into the same category was very interesting to me, it gives many artists a lot of freedom and ability to explore there own creativity and talent.
ReplyDeleteLuis,
ReplyDeleteI was really excited to read your blog and excited that you did it on hip-hop! I’d never really thought about how auto tune is used a lot more often now in rap music than it used to be and your blog made me curious to look more into it! I appreciate that you added songs from Lil Wayne and Eazy E to show the difference. I’ve listened to NWA’s music, but I never knew Eazy E had passed away so young from the AIDS epidemic.
I thought it was interesting that you mentioned how old school rap has less beats than a lot of rap music today, which is something I’m curious to look into more now too. Thank you for sharing some of your favorite artists and for all the information!

I didn’t know much about Hip-Hop, but after reading more about it , it sounds really cool. I really like how you gave us an example of early rap and then rap nowadays to show how far it has come. I’ve heard that Eazy-E song a bunch before and I had no idea it was by him and much about it at all. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI also chose hip-hop for my genre!! We mention of the same things but you brought up a lot of things I did not mention in my blog. The links you provided were also different from mine. I really appreciate how in debt you went.
