Luis Music and Ritual blog

so for my type of rituals or celebration that my Hispanic culture always does is quinceanera to girls that are turning 15. my personal experience that i have with a quinceanera is that ive been to alot of them and they are all set up the same way. she rented out a building to do it and hired a DJ and rented many seats and tables. people dancing and eating and oh yeah the food was really basic for a Hispanic quinceanera. then it was time for the dad and daughter dance followed by the special dance which included chambalantes. then they played some kind of fun games after with asking people to participate in and most likely everyone would do it. it was time for the cake and they just have multiple cakes ready to be served and some jello to go along with it. the rest of the night is just lots of dancing and people being drunk and having a good time, i left around 2 am in the morning that night, was a night to remember.

So, yes a quinceanera is a very beautiful way of celebrating your 15 birthday as a girl. but on the music side, so the music that was playing at the party was all very know music from the Hispanic culture as they played cumbia which is a very popular type of music followed by lots of ranchero music and modern music today. this is the same kind of music i am sure you will hear at any other Quinceanera. where music seems to be different is when the chambalantes and the quinceanera do there special dance which can be anything but what i typically see is hip hop or rap most the time. most of the music played is cumbia which is popular and old. many Hispanics dance to this today and what i think has to be one of my favorite type of music. there is no rules that need to be followed i would say because its your party but that usually how they all are. one thing i think is ritual is the clothes you wear, the quinceanera must look like a princess and should be treated like one and the chambalantes usually wear suits or tuxedos. but this is what i have to say about the music and ritual about quinceanera.

here is a video of what a quinceanera looks like.

  1. It was very interesting to read about a quinceanera and its rituals. I wrote about a traditional birthday celebration I have been a part of and It's fun to learn about the differences. I never thought people rented out a building and got a dj for their quinceanera. I also liked the ritual of the father daughter dance, which I can see to be very special.

  2. I enjoyed reading about Quinceanera's. Birthdays are very special to my family as well, but to read about how your cultural celebrates your 15th birthday seems like so much fun. I remember seeing a movie on a girl celebrating her Quinceanera and everyone was dressed up so nice and elegant, the room was filled with family and friends. I know this is a very special day no one can ever forget.

  3. I went to a friend's Quinceanera a few years ago, and it was such an amazing experience. It was so lively and I spent a majority of the night dancing. Overall, I had a great time and it was really cool to experience a culture different from my own. It was definitely a night I will never forget. I wish I could have attended more of them.
